CVCA at VCA Convention 2015

-CVCA was selected the 2015 VCA Large Chapter of the Year, this is the 6th consecutive year that CVCA has won this award! Our letter of nomination by Emily Barnes can be viewed here!


-Jen Kurbel was selected as the 2015 VCA Counselor of the Year! Her nomination letter by Sandy Hite can be found here!


-Professor David Glanzer, co-founder of EMU's MA in Counseling program, received the 2015 William Van Hoose Career Service Award!


-Associate Professor Teresa Haase, Director of EMU's MA in Counseling program, received the 2015 VCA Chapter Member of the Year Award!

The CVCA Annual Awards Breakfast was held at Village Inn on May 2, 2014. Awards were presented to the following people: 


  • Counselor Educator of the Year: Cheree Hammond, Assistant Professor at Eastern Mennonite University
  • Chapter Member of the Year Award: Teresa Haase, Counseling Department Chair at Eastern Mennonite University
  • Support Member Award: Casey Owens, LPC, School Counselor at Page County Middle School, CVCA Webmaster
  • Emerging Leader Award: Dana Blauch, Resident, Family Life Resource Center, CVCA President-Elect
  • School Counselor of the Year: Jodi Myers, School Counselor at Wilson Memorial in Augusta County
  • Community Counselor of the Year: Gretchen Wilhelm, Ph.D, LPC, Regional Direction at Compass
  • Student Member: Tempest Anderson, CVCA Social Committee Chair
  • Administrative Support Member: Sandy Hite, CVCA Communications Coordinator

The CVCA Annual Awards Breakfast was held at Village Inn on May 2, 2014. Awards were presented to the following people (left to right): 


  • Counselor Educator of the Year: Teresa Haase, Counseling Department Chair at Eastern Mennonite University, and her areas of interest are the integration of expressive arts in development, supervision and counselor formation.
  • Chapter Member of the Year Award: Vanessa Redmond, School Counselor at Thomas Harrison Middle School in Harrisonburg
  • Support Member Award: Janice Lewis, a clinical mental health professional who was the past CVCA webmaster.
  • Emerging Leader Award: Emily Barnes, School Counselor at Harrisonburg High School and secretary of CVCA for 2014-2015.
  • Community Support Award: Lester Smith of Blue Ridge Community College who supports CVCA activities on his campus.
  • School Counselor of the Year: Jenn Kurbel, School Counselor at Riverheads and Stuarts Draft Elementary Schools in Augusta County
  • Community Counselor of the Year: Debbie Sturm, JMU Counseling Department Chair and expert on trauma, play therapy and connecting the natural world to mental health
  • Community Support Award: Debbie Glenn of Blue Ridge Community College who supports CVCA activities on her campus.
  • Student Member: Victoria Bice
